daddy's moneyI recently viewed a new commercial for the new Skechers shoes for girls.  I was a little taken back by it and surprised, but the more I thought about it I realized I really did have a problem with it.

Just like many things in the media today this is teaching our students that image is more important than everything, and also encouraging a bit of manipulation in that the heals are hidden.  This is definitely worth your time and thoughts.

As I we strive to educate our students on what it is to be a man or woman of God we also have to let them see how the world is trying to manipulate their minds.  Nobody in this advertising campaign is going to say that they are trying to appeal to the sneaky side (possibly sinful side) of girls, but that is what is happening.   Seeing this in advertising makes it seem natural and OK to our girls.

What message are our girls getting from this?  Check out the commercial here!
